GMDT 2014

1414488238311

Sooo, this was the second time ADC joined Gajah Mada Debating Tournament (GMDT) hosted by UGM.  One team made it to Octofinal last year but we set a higher goal this year. Three teams representing Atma Jaya were:

ATMA A                                : Marcella Chandra, Julina Adistasya, Anggi Arishkan

ATMA B                                : Richard Tjie, Raisa, Petrus Raditya

ATMA C                               :  Theodorus Nico, Benedicta Vania, Hizkia Ginting

N1(s)                                   : Michael Chang, Kristoforus Geraldo, Arif Wijaya Hambali

After team announcement, each team quickly gathered to do the obligatory SWOT & arrange a training schedule.  After a month of training and preparation, the long-awaited Asian tournament has finally came. We took an 8-hour overnight train to Yogyakarta and arrived just in time to see the sun rise. Most of us didn’t get a good sleep & were extremely exhausted. Because it was still early, we couldn’t directly check-in to our hotel. We waited for about 7 hours before we could finally take a super refreshing bath & a quick nap. The N-1s headed straight to UGM for adjudication test.

After that, we didn’t want to waste time & quickly held sparring between teams. Day one ended after we had dinner in one of the best lesehan restaurant I had so far. It was unbelievably cheap & delicious (probably because we were starving). I wish they open another branch in Semanggi :”.

The next day, we had our breakfast in the hotel & headed to UGM. It was a very long journey to reach the venue (we were lost several times since the university area is really huge & debt hall was on the 5th floor.).  We had 4 preliminary rounds that day and 1 more round the next day before breaking announcement.

After 5 rounds of preliminary rounds, ATMA A broke 6th and proceed to Octofinal round. Our N-1 Kristoforus Geraldo was also a breaking adjudicator. Sadly, ATMA B & C didn’t go through L At octofinal round, ATMA A faced SADHAR B and had a very tight debate.  Sadly, ATMA A lost to SADHAR B with a split of 1 to 2. Nevertheless, we’ve done our best! We decided to have fun in Jogja and enjoy the rest of the evening by going to Alun-alun Jogja. We hire a super festive semi car becak and ate Wedang Ronde while enjoying Jogja’s night breeze.

The next day, we decided to head for Malioboro for gudeg and a little bakpia shopping. After we had our lunch, we head back to UGM & watched the final round. It was a very interesting debate about HongKong protesters. Done with final round, we split into two groups. One headed back to Malioboro and the other headed to an internet café we heard earlier, where TV series, anime and movies are insanely complete & ready to copy.

After a long weekend at Jogja, we took another 8-hour overnight train to Jakarta… It was an amazing experience with the most amazing people 🙂

Let’s work hard in another tournament!!

Management Edutainment UNIBRAW 2014

In November 7th-9th 2014, Atma Jaya Debating Club was sent its team to Malang, specifically to Universitas Brawijaya, to join“Management Eduitaiment Debate”. This was a competition which used Asian Parliamentary system but in Bahasa. We sent 2 teams in this tournament that consist of freshman to get as much as experience in debate. Our contingent were :

ATMA A : Febriyanti Gunawan (FH’14), Donny Mario (FE’14), and Alfonsus Gautama (FP’14)

ATMA B : Ivana Natalia (FE’14), Carolina (FE’14), and Anastasia Devina Cicilia (FKIP’14)

Here was the detail of the competition.

In 7th November, our contingent followed the debating seminar that explain how’s the system, the role of each speaker, and the criteria from adjudicator to decide the debate. This seminar was followed by exhibition to show how the debate should do and how adjudicator gave their decision.

In the next day, our contingent faced three preliminary round.

In the first round, UK Petra B (Gov) vs Atma Jaya A (Opp) and Atma Jaya B (Gov) vs Telkom (Opp). Both team debate under the motion “Kehadiran program asuransi dari pemerintah (universal HealthCare , BPJS Kesehatan) akan mematikan industri asuransi swasta”. The result was Atma Jaya A won but sadly Atma Jaya B lost the 1st round.

In the second round, STIE Perbanas (Gov) vs Atma Jaya A (Opp) with the and Institut Pertanian Bogor A (Gov) vs Atma Jaya B (Opp). The result was both Atma Jaya A and Atma Jaya B won this round.

In the third round, which was silent round,Atma Jaya A (Gov) vs Telkom (Opp) and UK Petra B (Gov) vs Atma Jaya A (Opp). But after breaking announcement, we knew that both Atma’s Team was lost in the last preliminary round.

The result after Three Preliminary round was Atma Jaya A broke and proceed to elimination round, but sadly that Atma Jaya B had to stop their journey in this competition.

In the Quarter Final round,Institut Pembangunan Dalam Negeri (IPDN) (Gov) vs Atma Jaya A (Opp), under the motion “Pemasaran produk  Musik melalui materi RBT tidak bersifat prospective”. The result was out of our expectation that Atma Jaya A had to stop in that elimination round.

But overall, we very proud with the effort of our new generation where they have done their best for this competition. They got a good beginning to understand how the debate should go by using bahasa. Lose will knock us down but we can choose to get back up or not !! Good luck guys for your next competition !! God BlessUntitled
